Preserve Your Jewelry

Our Guide to More Beautiful Jewelry

The longevity of your jewellery will depend, in large part, on the care you take with it. On this page we give you some tips on how to preserve and care for your favorite pieces. Regardless of the metal of the jewelry, there are transversal cares that you can apply to ensure its durability.

  • Store your jewellery separately to avoid scratches and tangles;
  • Close bracelets and necklaces to avoid knots;
  • Store jewellery away from sources of heat and/or moisture;
  • Avoid using them during physical activity and when sleeping;
  • Avoid exposing them to water, creams, and perfumes.

The Sunlight

Gold

The Color of the Stars

Silver

Silver jewelry is stunning and timeless, but it requires proper care to maintain its beauty over time.

Silver pieces can become darker over time, through a process called oxidation. Silver oxidation can be caused by several factors, such as contact with water, creams, perfumes or even perspiration. This phenomenon occurs in an external layer that accumulates on the jewelry and does not affect its quality in any way, occurring even when the jewelry has been stored for some time, without any use. The more you wear your jewelry, the less likely it is to oxidize.

Clean regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove any residue or dirt and store your pieces separately to avoid scratches. Remove your jewelry when using harsh chemicals such as chlorine (includes swimming in certain pools) and household cleaning products.

Silver jewelry can be rhodium or gold plated. Rhodium gives a shiny silver color and helps protect the piece from oxidation. The rhodium plating wears out over time, depending on how the piece is used. Gold plating gives silver pieces a golden color. It also helps to protect the piece from oxidation, but it suffers from wear over time. If you have any worn parts in your rhodium/gold plating, you can always ask for a new plating.

The resistance

Steel

Steel jewelry, even though it is not a precious metal, has gained popularity due to its durability and accessibility (values often equated to silver). Another positive feature of steel is its hypoallergenic nature.

Gold plating on steel parts is normally quite resistant. Either way, over time and depending on your daily activity, you may notice wear and tear.

Watches

Water Resistance

There are always many doubts about the ability of watches to resist water.

Watches are rated with a measure of water resistance, usually in meters (m) or atmospheres (ATM). This rating indicates the water pressure the watch can be subjected to without compromising its seal.

  • “Water proof” simply means that the watch is waterproof.
  • Water Resistant: Indicates that the watch can withstand splashes, such as washing hands, but is not suitable for immersion.
  • 3 ATM / 30m: Suitable for daily use and resistant to splashes, light rain and hand washing.
  • 5 ATM / 50m: Can be used while bathing or shallow swimming, but not for diving.
  • 10 ATM / 100m or more: Suitable for swimming, recreational diving and surface water activities.

To avoid irreversible damage to your watch, make sure the crown is always closed to ensure adequate sealing when placed in contact with water. The watch crown and buttons should never be used underwater. Avoid exposing the watch to hot water as the heat damages the seals. After exposure to water, rinse the watch with fresh water to remove salt or chlorine residue, and dry it with a soft cloth. Perform regular inspections to check the sealing and integrity of your watch, and replace the seals, especially if you plan to expose it to water frequently.
